An official said on Saturday that hours after a woman's decapitated body was discovered placed in a bag in a coastal area of Maharashtra's Thane district on Friday, police detained the woman's husband and brother-in-law.

Woman's Headless Body Found

Tattoos on the body included a trishul (trident) and 'damru' (hourglass-shaped drum), as well as the initials 'OM' on the arm. Police investigated numerous leads and identified her as Anjali Mintu Singh, of Rajavali Gaon Road, Naigaon. They then arrested her spouse, security guard Mintu Rambrij Singh, and his brother, security supervisor Chun Chun Rambrij Singh. According to the official, the woman's husband confessed to the crime during interrogation.

As per the police, Mintu Singh murdered Anjali on May 24 and then contacted his brother and they disposed of the body. They allegedly chopped off the head and dumped the trunk in the water after stuffing it in a sack. On Friday, the bag washed up on the shores of Uttan.

The official stated that they have yet to discover where the brothers disposed of the head and that no missing person's report was filed by the victim's family members.

Unfortunately, this crime just marks one of many heinous crimes against women that shocked the nation.

Recently, the brutal murder of a 16-year-old girl in Delhi's JJ Colony in public was caught on CCTV footage. The footage showed the 20-year-old accused stabbing the minor girl more than 20 times and bashing her head with a rock as bystanders walked by.

On May 31, a father killed his daughter by stabbing her more than 25 times and attacked his wife as well. There is an indispensable need for government to wake up and ensure the safety of girls and women at the ground level so that accelerating atrocities against women can be eradicated.
