On Friday, a man disguised as a lawyer shot at a woman and injured her inside a court complex in India’s capital New Delhi.

The accused, Rajendra Jha managed to escape through the back door of the court canteen, according to officials. A video of the incident being shared widely on social media showed the woman, wearing a red traditional dress, screaming and clutching at a wound on her stomach.

  1. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Chandan Chowdhary, reported that a middle-aged woman named M Radha was wounded by a gunshot in her stomach and abdomen. She was taken to Max Hospital in Saket, where her condition stabilised.
  2. According to authorities, Kameshwar Kumar Singh, a previous legal representative at the Saket court, had accused the woman of fraud in regards to an issue involving Rupees 25 lakh, and a court appearance was planned for Friday.
  3. The practising lawyer Kameshwar Kumar Singh, aged 49, had his licence suspended by the Bar Council for three years until 2024. He had filed a complaint against Radha and advocate Rajendra Jha in November of the previous year, alleging that the two had defrauded him of Rs 25 lakh.
  4. Singh's long-time friend, Rajendra Jha, presented him with an investment opportunity promising a high monthly interest rate of 20-40 per cent. Despite being swayed by Jha's proposition and their friendship history dating back to 2006, Singh's decision to invest his hard-earned money was influenced by Jha's offer.
  5. The FIR revealed that he had a close association with M. Radha, acting as his intimate associate.
  6. The incident captured on videos depicts a man and a woman having a dispute outside a building in the court complex. Subsequently, the man revealed a firearm and proceeded to chase the woman while firing two rounds from a short distance. The woman attempted to distance herself while calling for help in a state of distress. The man then discharged a third round.
  7. Another individual, Ajay Singh Chauhan, age 30, sustained injuries during the incident. Initially identified by the police as a court clerk, the crime branch later confirmed that he was the personal security officer of suspended lawyer Kameshwar Kumar Singh, 49. Following the incident, Singh was apprehended by the authorities in Surya Nagar, Faridabad. According to reports, Singh claimed that the firearm found at the scene belonged to Ajay.
