Recently a Trans tea stall was opened and inaugurated on 10 March at the railway station of Guwahati as an attempt to empower the Transgender community of the nation.

The initiative of opening the “Trans tea stall” was taken by the Northeast Frontier Railway, which is going to be the very first of its kind in the nation. It has been made possible with the active collaboration All Assam Transgender Association according to a top railway official.

Trans Tea Stall At Guwahati Station

The tea stall called the Trans tea stall has been launched in the Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Office a compound in Guwahati, Assam. The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, Anshul Gupta was invited to inaugurate the Trans tea stall on Friday at platform number 1 of the Guwahati railway station.

The Associate Vice Chairman of the Transgender Welfare Board of Assam, Swati Bidhan Baruah was also present at the inauguration ceremony and said, that she was always hopeful that more trans people will be rehabilitated in the days to come, under numerous government schemes. She also added to her statement, “Transgender persons mostly face molestation as well as invariably don't get jobs. Therefore they are forced to beg in railway stations, trains, and other public places while digesting all the insults. It's great that the Northeast Frontier Railway has taken an initiative to provide them with dignity,”

The CPRO of NF Railway, Sabyasachi De said that the idea to start the 'Trans tea stall' was generated and implemented by the North East Frontier Railway (NEFR) to empower the community of transgender people.

The initiative is said to be a part of the centre’s “Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise" scheme for Transgender people. This also includes a sub-scheme specifically for Comprehensive Rehabilitation for the Welfare of Transgender People.

The Northeast Frontier Railway is all set to open more of such Trans tea stalls across various other railway stations in the region. This act is getting widely applauded by the netizens, on an Instagram post related to the same a user wrote, “Trans is transforming, a good initiative was taken by Indian railways”

Another user wrote, “There will be days when we all will see just people, not as Transgender women or men. But as a normal human doing their work but such initiatives for future generations to be normalised on such issues are good." Another user wrote, “They are getting the respect they deserve which is nice to see.”
