Journalist Found Dead In Bengaluru Home, Husband Accused Of Torture

Shruti Narayan, a 35-year-old journalist by profession was found dead in her Bengaluru apartment. Reportedly, Narayan hanged herself in absence of her husband.

The journalist used to work at the Reuters Bangalore bureau as a page editor. She used to live in an apartment on Vidyasagar Chala Road in Bengaluru. Narayan was married to her husband for five years and the couple lived together in the apartment. As per reports, her husband Aneesh was in the Taliparamba area of the Kannur district of Kerala when Narayan allegedly died by suicide in Bengaluru. Police have stated that the post mortem report confirmed that the journalist died by hanging. Her body was found when her mother called her but got no reply.

Reportedly, her brother named Nishant then contacted the security guard of Narayan's apartment on the phone to check on his sister. The house was locked from inside so the security broke open the balcony door and entered the apartment. They reportedly saw Shruti Narayan hanging from the ceiling.

The deceased woman's relatives when arrived at the scene of the incident expressed suspicion on her death. They even lodged a complaint with the Whitefield Police Station demanding a clarification on the Narayan's death. Narayan's brother Nishant reportedly alleged that her husband Aneesh used to torture her on a daily basis. Nishant told the police that the journalist and her husband used to have disputes because Narayan used to send a portion of her salary to her parents every month. Nishant told the police, "Aneesh would verbally abuse her in an intoxicated state."

As per reports, it has also been alleged that Aneesh used to monitor Shruti Narayan's daily activities through hidden cameras around the house. It used to record everything Shruti said. Narayan's brother also alleged that Aneesh would take her out on tours on weekends and would abuse her. Nishant's wife reportedly made several attempts to contact Shruti Narayan on March 20 and March 21 but got no reply. Nishant and his wife then visited Narayan's apartment on March 22 and found her.

The brother also alleged that Aneesh made an attempt to kill Narayan in January this year. Reportedly, Narayan's loud screams saved her as the security guards were alerted who then intervened. Narayan's father is Narayanan Periya, an environmental activist and former teacher. Her mother Satyabhama also used to teach. Her parents live on Vidyanagar Chala Road.
