A survey carried out by travel company, Cox and Kings, has revealed that 82 per cent of women want a holiday before the baby arrives. A majority of women the travel company surveyed had been on a babymoon holiday. The most preferred time for them to travel was in the second trimester. The survey questioned women from Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.

Expectant mothers preferred going to Goa, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Kerala when they were travelling domestically. For international travel, Seychelles, Thailand, UAE and Sri Lanka topped the list.

“About 72% of the new mothers had opted for a babymoon during their pregnancy. 'Relaxation' being the primary reason for women to take a babymoon, they feel it offers a great window to have a child-free getaway," said the survey

Seventy-seven per cent of mothers wanted to travel with only their husbands and not their entire families. They preferred to go to beaches, and not surprisingly did not want to partake in adventure travel. Majority of pregnant travellers preferred custom-made tours over group tours.

"The priorities for the couple while planning the trip are safety, duration of travel and medical help,” said the survey.

Babymoon is certainly a trend amongst celebrities. Esha Deol and Bharat Takhtani went on a babymoon to Greece and shared some great pictures. Soha Ali Khan and husband Kunal Khemu also flew to London before the baby, and Shahid and Mira Kapoor went to the Maldives. These are just a few celeb couples who decided to enjoy some alone time before the baby arrived.

But for the majority of us, babymoon remains a nice idea, and wishful thinking. Editor Mohua Gupta says that she spent the time during pregnancy, working hard and trying to save holidays for when the baby arrives. "The real challenge is how a couple adjusts after the baby arrives," she says, "and babymoons don't prepare you for that".
