NFHS Report Observes Only 1.7% More Women Prefer Daughters Than Son In Rajasthan

Rajasthan NFHS Report: Know About The Statistics On Women's Sex Preference For Children

The NFHS statistics show that sons and daughters are approximately equally preferred by women and men in the Rajasthan state. Similar to how 15.6% of women prefer sons to daughters, 15.9% of males prefer sons to daughters in the Rajasthan state.

In addition, 1.7% of women in the state, along with 1.7% of women in Chandigarh, prefer daughters over sons, the lowest percentage of such women in north India. More women want daughters than sons in Punjab (1.9%), Haryana (2%), Delhi (2.9%), and Himachal Pradesh (4.7%).

The proportion of women who want more sons than daughters in their ideal family size is highest in Manipur and Uttar Pradesh (23% each), and it is lowest in Chandigarh (5%).

With age, there are more married women who desire to stop having children. In the nation, only 25% of married women aged 15 to 24 wish to stop having children, compared to 66% of women aged 25 to 34 and 89% of women aged 35 to 49.

65 per cent of married women between the ages of 15 and 49 who have two living daughters but no sons want no additional children, compared to 91 per cent of those who have two sons but no daughters. The NFHS-5 reports that the pattern is the same for men, demonstrating that preference for sons is still a significant component in national fertility preferences.

With the exception of Tripura, Sikkim, and Assam, women are less likely to want to start a family in the northeastern states than in Bihar (66%) in the east, Goa (60%) in the west, Ladakh (48%) and Jammu & Kashmir (52%) in the north, and Kerala (64%) in the south. In the Rajasthan state, 70% of women want to avoid having any more kids.
