Tanishaa Mukerji Reveals She Froze Her Eggs At 39, Says Its Okay For Women To Not Want Children

Tanishaa Mukerji Froze Her Eggs: Actor Tanishaa Mukerji went through the process of freezing her eggs at the age of 39. Though she wanted to undergo the procedure at 33, the doctor did not support her.

Her doctor suggested that she should only undergo the procedure when she has 'no hope of conceiving a baby'. Calling it a personal choice, she said that it is alright if women do not want children.

Talking to a leading daily, Tanishaa Mukerji (43) said that she chose to freeze her eggs when she was 39 years old. She revealed that she was 'very conflicted' around her 39th birthday. "I didn't have a baby and all these things were going on in my mind. I finally got some guidance and froze my eggs at the age of 39."

Mukerji further said that she put on a lot of weight due to the the procedure. Since they pump the woman with a lot of Progesterone, it bloats them a lot. The actor added that this way women become round, glowing and very beautiful. She further added that she loves pregnant women as they are in their most beautiful phase with the baby glow. However, she had to get into a 'hardcore regime' after that to become fit.

The process of freezing one's eggs is called  mature oocyte cryopreservation. Originally, she wanted to freeze her eggs at 33 but the doctor did not support her. She advised her to go through the procedure only when she had, 'no hope of conceiving a baby'. "At that time, when I went to my doctor (who finally froze my eggs now)...it is funny but she stopped me from doing so at that time," said the Sarkar actor. She added, "While she told me it takes a toll on your body, she advised I should do it when I have no hope of conceiving a baby." Mukerji further added that it is a personal choice and it is absolutely okay for women to not have children. One can always adopt. She also said that more people need to go out and talk about it. Having children is not the only calling in a woman's life. "It's okay to not get married, not be in a relationship and not define yourself with a man beside you," she said.

In Nov 2020, actor Mona Singh took to her Instagram handle to announce that she was happy that she took a call to freeze her eggs at the age of 34. Singh added that while she was sure of motherhood, she wanted time to decide when she wanted to embrace it wholeheartedly.

Who is Tanishaa Mukerji?

Tanishaa Mukerji made her Bollywood debut with the 2003 film shhhh.... She later appeared in movies like Sarkar, Sarkar Raj, Son of Sardar etc. Mukerji participated in the seventh season of the reality show Bigg Boss in 2013 and she was also a participant in Khatron ke Khiladi season 7. Tanishaa is the daughter of actor Tanuja and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee and younger sister of actor Kajol.
