The Aam Aaadmi Party’s historic win yesterday, left most people both shocked and ecstatic. In a world where no political party is free of corruption and malice, AAP has made some promises, that if kept, would change the face of Indian politics. In an interview with the Rediff.com, AAP member and former CEO of RBS, Meera Sanyal talks about the party’s victory and the effect it may have on Mumbai.

Till a few days ago, everyone, including news channels believed that AAP and BJP will be fighting neck to neck but the results proved all of this wrong. When asked about how AAP completely swept away the Modi wave she said, “Elections in the end are very local. They want to see tangible results. They want to see what is happening. 'How is my life changing? What is happening here? How is the garbage outside my house getting removed? Who is the person? Who can I go talk to?'

Sanyal continued, “…Because in the end you can't go talk to the prime minister for every problem. You can't even go talk to the chief minister. But you can talk to your local MLA. And if the person is accessible and honest and doing work, then that is very powerful, right?” she added that the way her party campaigned was very different and positive. Sanyal, who was in Delhi for most of the last four months for campaigning, claims that the Delhi Dialogue and Jan sabhas, were only focused on the people and their issues.
