May Exhume Jayalalithaa's Body, Says Madras HC

Ever since Jayalalithaa's demise on the 5th December, there has been a spate of controversies regarding her 'mystery death'.

On Thursday, the Madras High Court expressed its doubts over the former Chief Minister's death. Justice Vaidyalingam, while hearing a PIL filed by an AIADMK worker, said,  “After the demise, everybody has a right to question. I personally have a doubt. One day it was told that she is walking, another day you said that she will come out and suddenly what happened? Even with regard to the health of late Chief Minister MGR, a video was released."

The court hinted that it might order an exhumation of the body.

“Even after death, you have not given medical records, why can’t we order the exhumation of the body?” asked Madras High Court Judge Vaidyanathan. He also added, "Even relations were not allowed to see and they are also not before the court now. In case I have doubt, I may order the exhumation of the body of the deceased."

The PIL filed by PA Joseph, an AIADMK worker, said, "A person who was holding the highest public office, who was the Chief Minister of the state and who was very hale and healthy just two months back, fell sick over the course of a day and in the dark of the night was admitted to a hospital. The news was that she was just suffering from fever and will return home in 2 days."

Earlier this month, AIADMK MP Sasikala Pushpa, moved the apex court to look into the former Chief Minister's death, calling it 'suspicious'.

The Madras High Court has issued notices to the Prime Minister, State, Central government and Apollo Hospitals regarding the probe and the case would be next heard on 9th January, 2017.
