“Boxing in India is almost dead. There are no major competitions held for the past two years in India. I miss tears welling up in my eyes when I see the Indian flag going up after I had won a medal in an international event,” said Kom as reported by News Today. She still hopes that this Championship tournament will help create awareness about boxing and divert some attention towards it.

The boxer who could not enter Olympics this time won a bronze at the same sports event when it was held in London. She made it clear that she is not retiring from the game and will continue to fight for three more years.

“It was unfortunate not to get the wild card, but would continue to play for next three years," cleared Kom in her response about the rumours of retirement.

She also took the opportunity to congratulate Dutee Chand for qualifying the women's 100 metres dash at the Rio Olympics. She praised her for her achievement as she said that it is more difficult to qualify in the athletics in Olympics than winning medals in Boxing.

“I congratulate Dutee on her qualication for Rio Olympics. It is a great honour to represent country at the Olympics. It’s a matter of great pride as she became first woman in 36 years after PT Usha to qualify for 100m dash,” claimed Kom as she went on to justify why Dutee’s achievement is much more praiseworthy.
