Indian boxing star MC Mary Kom, recently broke a thousand hearts when she announced her retirement after 2016 Olympics. The 32-year old Olympics medalist is a mother of three children and said that her body is incapable of taking the stress that comes with the sport.
At a social media campaign held on Monday she told the media, "I have decided that I will quit after 2016 Olympics. Rio Games will be my last competitive event and I will not continue after that… My third child is two years old and I think it's enough for me. Who would have faced the rigours of competitive boxing after having three children? I want to bring happiness to the people of this country by winning a GOLD in Rio. I want to win a gold there and so I thought of continuing till 2016 Games”: reported DNA.

She revealed that post-retirement, she will be giving all her attention to her academy in Imphal, where she would want to produce more “Mary Koms” for the country. Asked about the future of the sport in the country, she said, "What do I say? There is infighting in the federation. Some would say to do this and others will say to do that. The boxers are confused and they don't know what to do. Unless there is unity, we will not get anything. Boxers are the only sufferers," reported Times of India.
Mary Kom in the duration of her career, bought pride to the nation, the sport, the residents of the north-eastern states and of course, women in general. Her retirement is definitely saddening for India but her contribution to the sport and India will be remembered for years to come.
