Lincoln Memorial Out Of Bounds For Women's Washington March

Thousands of women are planning to march in Washington on January 21, 2017, a day after Donald Trump formally takes charge as the US President. And Lincoln memorial was one of the sites at which they had planned to rally. However, the National Park Service, on behalf of the Presidential Inauguration Committee, has blocked access to the landmark.

The memorial is an iconic site, which has hosted many rallies, including the anti-Vietnam protests in the 1960s. Martin Luther King even gave his 'I have a dream' speech there.

This is an unprecedented move as very rarely has an important piece of public land been blocked off to protesters.

As expected, expressions of outrage have flooded Twitter since the news was announced.

There are currently 137,000 people who have signed up on Facebook to attend the event , and another 227,000 people have marked their interest in attending.

The organisers have decided on another location for the march, but haven't disclosed its whereabouts yet. By the way, the American Constituion protects citizens' right to protest.
