There are many soft skills required for personal and professional success. These skills, create a more rounded personality in the workforce. From being a beauty queen to having business as a model for various fashion brands, Konkana Bakshi picked up a thing or two about the right business etiquette, social manners and personal grooming skills required in today's context. This gave rise to the Savoir Faire Academie- a first of its kind finishing school that practices the skills acquired by the English and the French to fill the gap that exists among the Indian nationals. We caught up with her for a little chat!

"Savoir Faire Académie started with training for business and corporate etiquette. Now we are expanding our offerings to include social etiquette, art appreciation and training luxury professionals about the finer things in life to facilitate quality interaction with clients. At Tres Chic, we offer personal image consultancy, consult bridal clients and social skills." says Konkana. She feels inspired by the real transformation and feels great about contributing so actively to people's lives!

Through her exposure to several countries for international pageants from such a young age, she realised the value of an elegant, confident image. "This knowledge was invaluable and I wanted to take it a step further. So I enrolled myself in the New York Film Academie, where the faculty taught me body language, expressing my thoughts through emotion and voice modulation for stage performances. My mother worked in the diamond industry and I often interacted with diamond merchants and their families.  That is when I realised there could be a place for a platform that offers training in corporate and social etiquette. I gave wings to my vision and hosted my first workshop in Mumbai with Sabira Merchant, Dilip Cherian and Chris Gethen."

The only thing that works is a good combination of planning and hard work.

Although there were several challenges to her starting up, there is no secret to success for the self-employed. Her business mantra is, " The only thing that works is a good combination of planning and hard work. Whatever you do, do not give up. A business can experience highs and lows. Just do not let them discourage you into quitting. A woman has the best chances of success as an entrepreneur if she knows how to create the right balance. It is necessary to plan well and involve people who will be honest and supportive throughout the ups and downs of your new business."

Technology plays a huge role in the building a brand too. Earlier, it used to be tabloids and magazines, but now the information is accessible from every device.  And you should use it to its full potential. More and more entrepreneurs need to embrace the power of digital.

So, how will the world inherit more startup founders? Konkana's advice to women founders is " In the business world you need to be a business man. Being a woman you may not have any added advantage. But the attention to detail and a woman's touch and personalisation goes a long way. Certainly, every woman should start something of her own. It creates individuality and encases a lot more confidence. The feeling of achievement cannot be compared."
