Ace shuttler and Arjuna awardee Jwala Gutta, who is often the target of trolls on social media, shares how she deals with such behaviour. The star shuttler always takes on cyber harassment. Recently, in an interview with Sportskeeda, a fed up Jwala finally opened up and confessed how it feels like to be objectified every time she uploads images on social media sites.

"I'm someone who likes to do her hair, nails, etc and want to be presentable. If I look a certain way, it doesn't mean I'm 'fast' or 'active', which are milder comments among the lot. It's just a personal choice. So how does that make me 'easy to get'?"

If you go through her Facebook pictures, you’d be annoyed too. Most of the time, these trolls find ways to pass lewd comments -- without hesitation -- just for fun.

“We are hypocritical about 'how a woman should be'.”

“What they fail to realise is that we are also normal human beings who want to look good. That doesn't mean you add labels or prefixes to our name. We also have families, who might find such comments absolutely deplorable, just like theirs.”

What might be thrilling for the abuser could be demotivating for the athlete.

Slut shaming or cyber harassment, Jwala handles society’s double standards like a pro and voices her opinion in these comments.

“I don't want to lie, but I look good, and that is where the problem arises in perception. It's not just me as you said; even Sania Mirza faces the same problem. Any girl who tries to be presentable will be discriminated against. That's sadly what our perception is.”

“Sad to say, it also highlights how we are hypocritical about 'how a woman should be'. Also, have you ever seen such comments for male athletes about their various body parts? I don't think so.”

All woman athletes face unwanted comments because of their sports outfits on the field or off it and often get labelled as a slut. What do people expect these sportswomen to wear? A saree or salwar kameez?
