Indian Women’s hockey team rub shoulders with Rafael Nadal and Sania Mirza
And the countdown begins – Just 3 days to Rio. As our excitements are beyond words, meanwhile the Rio Olympics athletes started arriving at the Games Village. On the day of the Olympians arrival, paparazzi caught Indian Women’s hockey team spending some quality times with International tennis sensations Rafael Nadal and tennis star Sania Mirza after practice hours and the training sessions.
Mirza, who is the first tennis player to check into the Olympic Village – Alongside the Indian hockey team as a warm up practice, won a match against Spain. The squad is returning to the Olympics after a long gap of 36 years having qualified for next year’s Rio Games. On the other hand, Sania Mirza is playing in her third Olympics, and was heading in from Montreal, where she was playing the Rogers Cup. Also Rafael Nadal, the 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medallist, despite having a serious injury and will be in training for few days, is thrilled to be a participant.
The Indian Women’s hockey squad is comprised with Sushila Chanu (Captain and Defender), Navjot Kaur, Deep Grace Ekka, Monika, Nikki Pradhan, Anuradha Devi Thokchom, Savita, Poonam Rani, Vandana Katariya, Deepika (vice-captain), Namita Toppo, Renuka Yadav, Sunita Lakra, Rani Rampal, Preeti Dubey, Lilima Minz.
