IIM-B, IBM and WRC to collaborate for a leadership development programme

In an effort to groom more women for leadership positions in companies across India, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), IBM and Catalyst India WRC (a non-profit organization promoting women in business), will be collaborating to start a women’s leadership development programme - Tanmatra.   

According to Vasanthi Srinivasan, Associate Professor, IIMB and programme director, the advancement of working women in India is happening at an extremely low pace. She told Deccan Herald that 48 organizations by far have shown interest in the programme, which will have three modules: academic, reflective and experiential learning, on themes such as impacting business outcomes, exploring the self and owning careers.

Starting from October this year to June, 2015, the programme will be spread across a duration of 10 months. The participating corporations will be required to nominate a few of their women employees with more than 15 years of experience and “high potential.” This cross-industry development programme will be taught by the faculty at IIMB.

A participating company will be able to send a maximum of four applications and a minimum of two applications for the programme. However, individual or self-sponsored applications will not be accepted.

According to Dilpreet Singh, Vice President, HR, IBM India/ South Asia, a few corporates that have shown interest in the programme are Unilever, Walmart, CISCO, ANZ, Dr Reddy’s and Amazon.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, the programme will consist of three residential modules of five days over the 10-month period. Participants will also have virtual sessions between the residential modules. The programme will also include other activities such as cross industry learning, assessments, stretch assignments, mentoring, networking with leaders; amongst others.
