The Western India Automobiles Association (WIAA) is getting a thumbs-up from women in need. WIAA is an initiative aimed at empowering women, who come from less privileged families, by training them in driving and self-defence. WIAA is winning all brownie points for putting in effort in the cause of women's empowerment. Earlier this year, they had conducted a women's car rally which included about  training women in etiquette240 cars and 1,000 women participants. Not just that, the theme of the whole rally was 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao', where the women drivers had decked up their cars according to the theme.

According to a report by TOI, WIAA is now also, this will be the second batch of 21 students to go through this training.

This course is helping hundreds of women who come here to study the three-month free driving course. These women are taught driving on heavy vehicle simulators that are present on the association premises. They are also given communication training to be able to talk to the passengers. Not only does this help them get better jobs, but it refines their personality as a whole. Some women who complete this course become trainers for the next batch of women so as to help many such women live independently after the course.

Of the 20 women in the last batch, 15 of them have a stable job now and many taxi aggregators are ready to hire them. In July his year, the Road Transport and Highway Ministry had approached Uber and Ola to ask them to train one lakh drivers every year, the majority being that of women drivers. The government has also reduced the timeframe to gain a commercial driving licence that can benefit the everyone who want to start working soon enough after their training.
