Amjad Khan has taken up the challenge to film the exemplary story of this 19-year-old Taliban attack survivor. Backed by Anand Kumar, the film has signed TV actress Reem Sheikh to play Malala. It also features Om Puri, Divya Dutta (plays the role of Malala’s mother) and Ragini Khanna, reports The Quint.

‘Gul Makai’ was the pseudonym under which Malala had been blogging about her city.

"The biopic is 50 per cent finished and I am super curious to bring it to the silver screen soon. We have already shot the war sequences and other important schedules. Now we will be shooting with our Malala in Kashmir," Kumar explained when asked about the film, IANS reports.

Sheikh is not a new face in the industry. Soap fans have seen her in different roles in serials like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha. She has also played an important role in the Amitabh Bachchan-Farhan Akhtar-starer Wazir.

Malala is the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize winner. At 15 she survived a Taliban attack. And, rather than fearing, she was strengthened by the attack.

Her never-ending battle earned her an honorary Canadian citizenship. Currently, she is a citizen of England and promotes education among children, especially girls.
