R&B singer R. Kelly was found to be holding several young women against their will. According to Buzzfeed News, Kelly was operating a cult, and three women who had worked with him corroborated the claims. Now, a new report claims that a 24-year-old woman was paid to keep their sexual encounters under wraps.
The woman had become his fan when she was a 15-year-old living in a Chicago suburb. She would skip school and attend Kelly’s trial. He was acquitted for producing child pornography. She was even quoted in news stories at the time defending him.
False theft claim
Her affair with him lasted seven months. Kelly videotaped their sexual encounters without her permission. She says that he coerced her not to tell anyone. She had to write a letter stating that she had stolen jewellery and cash from him, and that her parents had set her up to blackmail him.
“At the time, I didn’t know what I liked, honestly,” she explained about agreeing to sign such a statement. “I just knew that I liked his music, so I was pretty much accepting of anything that came with him at the time.”
The woman says that he subjected her to mental and physical abuse. He gave her a settlement, and made her sign a non-disclosure agreement in order to get the money
But now she is speaking out, despite the NDA. She said speaking out is important for her, even though Kelly could sue her.
Kelly’s team denies all the claims.
“It is clear that these continuing stories are the result of the effort of those with personal agendas who are working in concert to interfere with and damage his career. Mr. Kelly again denies any and all wrongdoing and is taking appropriate legal action to protect himself from ongoing defamation,” the team said in a statement.
