The third-seeded doubles pair of Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova advanced into the semi-finals of the WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Thursday, defeating the seventh seeded American pair of Abigail Spears and Katarina Srebotnik, to clinch the game at 6-2, 7-5.

Interestingly, the Indo-Czech pair was dashed out by the American pair in the semi-finals of the Qatar Open held last week. However, getting stronger with every game, the duo demolished their opponents in the Dubai Open quarter-final in no time.

The women`s doubles clash of the Dubai Open WTA event started with both the teams in their best form. It was a thrilling quarter-final encounter to watch that lasted just one hour and 28 minutes.

Sania and Barbora will now face the Russian pair of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina for a place in the summit showdown.

The Indo and Czech players became partners in August last year when Sania parted ways with Swiss player. Martina Hingis. The duo won the titles of the women’s doubles at Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last year. The pair has had a good run and also played one Grand Slam together, entering the quarter-finals of the US Open last month. Earlier, the duo also clinched the Cincinnati Open title in the final against Martina Hingis and Coco Vandeweghe.
