Homi Adajania’s short film, ‘My Choice,’ made as a part of the Vogue Empower campaign, that featured Deepika Padukone, was both admired and criticized by India. With many celebrities discussing the film on social media and critiquing its content; the women-empowerment message seemed to have been overshadowed by all the controversies. But very recently, Deepika broke her silence and talked about her understanding of the video.

In the film, the actress says that if she wishes to have sex outside her marriage, it’s her choice. According to a report by the First Post, Deepika said that she did not intend to promote infidelity through the short film and believes people missed the underlining issue that the video wanted to send out.

She told PTI, “Mixed reactions did not bother me. It was a bit disappointing to know that certain lines were pulled out of context and blown completely out of proportion and we missed the larger point that the film was trying to make,” she added, “I never have endorsed infidelity. I know what the institution of marriage means to me; it is extremely holy and sacred. I am someone, who completely believes in being faithful and honest and in trust. It is an institution I truly believe in. I am not defending anything; people are right in their place if they have an issue with it.”

The actress further stated that she has never put up with infidelity in the past and even though she did not completely believe in each statement made by the film, she felt it was important to send out the larger message, according to the First Post report, adding, “I went ahead and was more than happy to be a part of it because I realised myself that there was a larger issue that we were dealing with and that we are dealing with. Just like the other 98 women who were the part of the video, I agreed to be a part of it”
