A college student was attacked with acid on her 21st birthday on June 21. Resham Khan and her cousin were driving through East London when the incident occurred. As her cousin pulled up to a traffic light, a man threw acid on Khan through the window. He then threw the acid on her cousin, Jameel Muhktar.

Khan has been tweeting about the attack since it happened.

"The pain was excruciating, I was struggling to close the window," she said.

"My cousin struggled to get us away. I saw my clothes burn in front of me. He put his foot down as we were coming onto a dual carriageway but the pain took over and we crashed. We stripped off in the middle of the road, running around screaming and begging for water," Resham said.

The two are recovering in hospital, and the police are investigating the case. They are still to make an arrest. Their friends have set up a page called GoFundMe on Facebook in order to help raise money for their treatment.

"She was preparing to open her own business over the summer, and had plans to model for Asian bridal, make-up and hair artists. But now she feels as though her identity has been stolen from her, on her 21st birthday," says the page.

Resham is trying to keep her spirits high and shows a lot of positivity on social media.

The donations will go towards therapy sessions to rebuild Resham's confidence, laser eye treatment, accommodation in an area they feel safe and to help them both financially as they have lost out on time at work.
