Actress Happy To Essay Strong Role Of Warrior Princess
We have all watched and loved Shweta Basu Prasad’s performances in movies and TV serials since her childhood days. Her role in the film Makdi won her a national award, and that has been her best performance till date. Prasad, who is currently essaying the role of a warrior princess in the historical TV serial Chandra Nandini on Star Plus channel, is happy she is playing a strong character.
Describing her character in the show, she explained, “She is independent and does not tolerate anything wrong. After her wedding, while she will lose all that she had, her family, her kingdom, everything, yet she doesn’t fall prey to the circumstances, rather grows from strength to strength.”
The teaser of the show portrays how Nandini, a warrior princess, was forcefully married off with Chandragupta Maurya, played by Rajat Tokas of Ashoka fame. Now, her character is preparing to take revenge on her husband for her father’s murder.
“Right from the time the teasers of Chandra Nandini went on air, I was convinced that a strong character like this definitely justifies the stance of women today,” said Prasad in a statement, as reported by Indian Express.

She feels that her character from the historical show relates to the women of today as both don’t get bogged down by society, “Instead they are strong-willed as they take on every challenge with a smile. Nandini too takes on the challenge of marrying a man who ruined her family dynasty,” she added.
Prasad has done multi-lingual movies — Telegu, Tamil and Bengali. Her acting in the film Iqbal also won her many accolades, specially the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 5th Karachi International Film Festival. She has also directed a documentary on Indian Classical Music that had stalwarts like Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, A. R. Rahman, Vishal Bhardwaj, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shubha Mudgal, Amjad Ali Khan, Gulzar etc.
