70-Yr-Old Celebrates B’day Running 7 Marathons In 7 Continents In 7 Days
What is the craziest thing you have done to make your birthday memorable? Went on a trip with buddies? Or ate as much as you could before your stomach couldn’t take in anymore? Or did you give yourself the favourite dress you always wished to have in your wardrobe? But have you ever tried running marathons in different countries to add that special zing to your birthday? Sounds bizarre? An American woman, Chau Smith, ran 7 marathons, on 7 different countries in just 7 days. She accomplished this feat to celebrate her 70th birthday. Do you still doubt the fact that age is just a number?
The event which made it possible for her to realize her dream was organised by Marathon Adventurers. The Vietnam-born septuagenarian ran the full marathons between January 25 and January 31. She covered Perth, Singapore, Egypt, Netherlands, New York, Chile and the cold Antarctica.
She has also posted a video on her YouTube channel that gives an insight into her passion for running. She fulfills her dream of staying stress-free and healthy by running. Isn’t that a great hobby to have?
The reason I am running the Triple 7 Quest is that I’m turning 70 next month. I thought it would be a perfect challenge to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents to celebrate my seven decades – Smith
She also explained how running marathons came naturally to her because she had been doing that for many years. “But running 7 in 7 days required me to undergo intensive training,” she added.
In another interview, Smith confessed that she was fond of doing some really crazy stuff since childhood. She wanted to prove her capability to do everything that boys could do. Now, that’s what we call “living life king-size” and we admire her for this unbridled enthusiasm she has for leading a purposeful life.
The lady’s passion for running at this age makes me wonder the limitless potential each one of us has. So, what are your plans for your upcoming birthday?
