A similar incident took place in July 2016 when a group of highway robbers raped a woman and her daughter in Bulandshahr. The horrifying incident invoked a lot of public anger with people taking to the streets to protest against the then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Such incidents against women lay testimony to the fact that a lot needs to be still achieved in safeguarding half the country's population.
