105-yr-old Kunwar Bai becomes ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ mascot
This has to be the inspiring story for the day. A 105-year-old woman from Chhattisgarh sells her goats, not for just living, for living better. With the money she earns, she builds a toilet at her home. This effort of Kunwar Bai has been felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and been chosen as the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan‘ mascot.
Kunwar Bai may be aged, but her ideas about cleanliness are clear. She is opposed to open defecation and to stop this unhygienic process from happening, she sold off some eight to ten of her goats to build toilets in the house.
Prime Minister Modi will honour Kunwar Bai at a function in New Delhi to mark ‘Swachhta Diwas’ today.
It was in February this year when the Prime Minister was in Chhattisgarh, launching the ambitious Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Rurban (rural-urban) Mission, felicitated Kunwar Bai, who hails from Kotabharri village of Dhamtari. He then even touched her feet to seek blessings.
